Speed in curves?
I have always wondered about what the speed limits are in the different curves, and if there are some curves without limits. Does anyone have an answer to that?

Re: Speed in curves?
The widest curve doesnt have a speed limit
Re: Speed in curves?
It's in the TRACKST.dat you can change it if it bugs you, but in reality, a curve of that radius would be 10, not 100 MPH.

A list of all the default turn speeds:
http://www.geocities.com/benj_a_d/sigdesign.htm#TSR
You can also get Your highspeed trains to use the uppser turn speed by coding it as highspeed. that way your freight still uses the "restricted" speed.

Re: Speed in curves?
I believe there is a line in the object .dats that is used by tilting trains (APT) so they go faster around bends than normal trains, so you could edit that line in a (high speed) passenger train so it would go faster than a freight train.
Just my interpretation.

Re: Speed in curves?
I did once have a mod where it allowed curves to have no speedlimits, but i did not realise that it was even installed and so dont know where it came from.
Very much a retired regular poster..... If you can say that
Re: Speed in curves?
So how did you know you had the mod at all?
Re: Speed in curves?
I had a game, where i had an IC225 (and a 73 on the back of it) on a 60mph crossover and it passed over it at almost double that, and also my trains also went over on the 41mph curves as well.

Re: Speed in curves?
Perhaps off topic:
When making track that ascends / decends, your normally limited to 60 Mph (I beleive), because of the bridge type.
You can work around this restriction by doing the ascent / descent track underground (simply lift the ground using the tool and build inside). This is significantly more expensive, but works well.

Re: Speed in curves?
use the highspeed brickbridge and your problems are solved, the curve speed can be changed at the trackst.dat.

Re: Speed in curves?
I like to change/modify as little as possible on my locomotion installation.
I once created some new trains, but they were too good for the competitors, and would cause them to become bankrupt (they'd spend months waiting at the station for full load.)
So I removed those.
Ok on editing the trackst.dat

Re: Speed in curves?
On a stock railroad trackand non-tilting train, the speeds for each curve is listed:
Tight Curve (Radius: 2): 41mph
Medium Curve (Radius: 3): 60mph
Wide Curve (Radius: 4)(45 degree): 101mph
S-bend: 60mph
Tight Curve (Radius: 2): 41mph
Medium Curve (Radius: 3): 60mph
Wide Curve (Radius: 4)(45 degree): 101mph
S-bend: 60mph
I'm not normal. Because normal is stupid. And stupid is normal.
