Rail Vehicle\Stock Classification and Naming Quiz's
Hello all!
I am here tonight with a new game for us all that I hope will be fun, challenging, and will test your knowledge of locomotives, rail stock and classifications. First off, here are some rules
1) You may not post another quiz unless you meet the requirements to win the previous quiz
2) No flaming (No name calling, putting people down, swearing at people, etc)
3) Please to swearing
4) Do not post images unless asked to do so or your posting a quiz
5) When posting images, do not post anything bad or irrelevant (No adult stuff or posting "Name this locomotive" With only a smily face for a picture)
6) Rail stuff only, no trucks, cars, planes, or ships are allowed
7) Nothing illegal, illegal activity is subject to removal, or possible banning by moderators.
These rules shouldn't be too hard to follow, so if you can agree with these then have fun.
Secondly, heres the first quiz...
------------------------------------
1) What is the common name of the 4-4-0 classification? (1 Pnt)
2) Why was the 4-4-0 commonly called that? (1 pnt)
3) True or False, the EE Type 3 Diesel Locomotive is American built (1 Pnt)
4) What was the Class 37's nickname (hint : where grain grows) (2 Pnts)
5) What is the name of the fastest steam locomotive in the world? (3 Pnts)
6) Commonly knowen as big blows for their power, noise, and turbine engines, who owned them? (2 pnts)
7) What does EMD stand for? (2 Pnts)
True or False, although steam locomotives where mostly phased out long before 1980, a new locomotive design was built for the South African railways in the 1980's by Devid Wardale (3 pnts)
9) Built to replace their aging Gas Turbines and quite possibly the most powerful diesel-electric locomotive made in America, what is the Model of this locomotive? (5 Pnts)
10) What is the proper name of the "bullet trains" in Japan (4 pnts)
24 Points in total, 12 or more needed to pass

Re: Rail Vehicle\Stock Classification and Naming Quiz's
1. What does GE stand for? (3 pnt)
A : GE stands for General Electric, though like EMD, its full name is GE Transportation Systems
2. When was the 4-6-2 Pacific invented? (4 pnt)
A : The 4-6-2 was invented in Between 1900 and 1901 but wasn't put into service until NZR purchased 13 pacifics.
3. When was Locomotion made? (10 pnt)
A : If you mean the game CS : Locomotion , it was released on Sept. 2004
4. When was the GP38-2 put into service by the Norfolk Southern? (3 pnt)
5. When was the SD70 put into service? (5 pnt)
6. Wheh was the SD70ACE put into WP Colors by the UP? (5 pnt)
7. When was the TOFC PiggyBack Car put into service? (5 pnt)
8. What does the term "Piggy-Back" mean? (10 pnt)
A : A piggy back is a Transport Trailer put on a specially configured flatbed, this usually saves time by not having to transfer goods from the trailer to a train car and back.
9. What does the term "switchback" mean? (5 pnt)
A : A switch back is a series of switches which allow trains to decend or acend steep grades safely and easily. The train will move back and forth, reversing direction at each switch to go up or down to the next switch.
10. What started the railroad industry in America? (50 pnt)
A : Like most countries the industrial revolution brought along the need for ways of moving goods around. Railways in pre-IR times where either gravity or horse driven. With the intention of the steam engine it was applied to work on rails and by the 1830's small railroads began to emerge in North America, some of which still operate albit being merged into a larger company (eg. Santa Fe had a early start but is now a part of BNSF)
